I started in 1980 working 2340 test....stayed there for a yr and moved to Electrical Systems integration commonly known as Wireways and waveguide design....later got recruited to Ocean Engineering working on Parche/Seawolf...that was some of the most awesome engineering in my career...
met my wife there and we've been together 23 yrs now.
So sad to see Mare Island gone.

I started in 1974 as Pipefitter Apprentice - one of three women hired that year in the Pipe Shop. Thru my 20 years with Mare Island - too young to retire when the base closure came...sigh.
However, that 20 years plus the engineering degree gave me the skill set to work in Alaska (private shipyard) and then on to Houston where I work in the oil and gas upstream business. My business Spring Projects is small company (employee of 1) but it allows the client flexiblity in hiring...so anyother Houstons out there?

I was a Fire Inspector/Firefighter (1980 - 1994) and President of the Firefighters union (1985-1994). I also served as the spokesperson for Labor during the fight to save Mare Island. My years there were the best of my career and my biggest regret was that we couldn't save Mare Island from closure. I'd like to find Dennis Kelly at some point.

It doen't seem like 13-years since I left MINSY. My years in Shop 51 and Code 378 were some of the best. The people I met over those years are still in my thoughts. Is there a reunion scheduled for the 15-year anniversary? If so, please let us all know.
