Whenever I think of Rick slagging off Fuse, I get a little hot under the the collar and become a pontificating critic at large. However, my opinion of the Fuse Lp only savors with the passage of time. The very pointed rebuffs concerning Fuse attributed to Neilsen are hard to square with the fact of the record's strengths. The liner notes always quoted RN saying he had gotten "messed up" with soul music somewhere... a waste of typography and sentiment since there was one paragraph of bio on the Epic dust sleeve. I'm tempted to believe that sensitivity or burnt feelings were at the root of the infamous remarks. Three points I'd like to share: The engineer may have been an idiot or in a hurry. The Lp deserves a remix. It was cut in haste in the most heavily trafficed year in history, and surely deserves more accolades than it got, being a very auspicious debut that was overlooked by the swirling masses.
