His son, my grand father, Thomas Leland Wickens, b.23 Nov., 1895, d.15 Mar., 1976. I'm assuming James was one of Thomas' sons.

I enjoyed reading your website. I sent an e-mail to you as I think maybe we are of the same Bridger family as John, father of Elizabeth. My ancestor is Gen. Joseph Bridger who came to Virginia in 1653. Look forward to hearing from you. My best, Jean Tomes

Hello there! Great to find this on the web.
There are lots of descendants in Australia of Emily Wickens, born 1866 (daughter of Joseph b 1817) - she was a seamstress and still in UK in 1891 but must have emigrated to Australia later because she lived in Brisbane and had a family - her daughter Annie had 13 children, and her offspring are mostly in Queensland and Canberra (me!)
My son works in London - am visiting him in Sept 2103 and might pop out to Rotherfield for a beer and a sticky-beak. Anyone interested in a yarn? Were the Wickens of the 1800s salt of the earth people? Did any become convicts? I note Joseph was a farm labourer. No land to inherit? (Only joking). Interested to see the Canadian and Kiwi links. I am a regional development consultant and lobbyist - so I guess I have an innate interest in why and how people...
